Hanbok
This project explores how form alters the way we experience a designed artifact. I chose to study the traditional Korean dress: hanbok. I wanted to highlight the beauty and elegance of the hanbok. A collection of essays was laser-cut into several layers of plexiglass. A large space was left in the center for the three-dimensional painting of the hanbok. I made a choice to obscure the content of the essays via the stacking of transparent engravings. This not only represented my personal lack of knowledge regarding this topic but also the audience’s as well. I wanted to create a sculptural and beautiful way of displaying this dress to try and capture people’s interest; to try and draw them in to discover more about my culture as I learn along with them.
